Glass verandahs are a revolutionary new home improvement product that is hitting the UK market. In fact, all over Europe people are going crazy for Glass Verandahs.
Verandahs (also spelt verandas) have been around for many years regularly providing sheltered walkways or cover over doorways. More recently, we are seeing a whole new application for these products.
Known across Europe as the Patio Roof, the Glass Verandah is now being used to provide much larger areas of shelter over the patio area or indeed, any area that you may like to sit outdoors.
The main purpose of the Verandah is to offer shelter from the weather to allow you to enjoy the outside world, even if the great British summer let's you down. With huge areas being able to be covered, and additional heating a sun protection, you can remain outdoors no matter whether it is raining, cold or even boiling hot.
Whilst the Glass Verandah can be made to be a freestanding structure, the majority of the time you will find that the glass veranda will act as an extension of the home, fixing to a wall of your property. At the front edge of the Verandah is supported by a number of posts. Smaller Verandahs will have two posts, but as there are really no width limitations, the wider the Veranda the more posts you will need the front.
At the wall edge, the verandah needs no posts down the wall keeping the entire area underneath free from obstacles. A slope from the wall to the front edge of the verandah allows water to run off and helps keep the room clean. Guttering can be utilized across the front of the verandah to stop the rain falling down the front.
It is recommended that laminated safety glass is used on all glass Verandahs. There has been known instances of birds dropping small pebbles or stones from lofty heights. This could cause a healthy glass panel to shatter dangerously over your patio area. Safety glass prevents this from happening by not only protecting the glass but also stopping it shattering in the level of something large falling on it.
When choosing a Verandah it is wise to look for quality as this will most likely be a permanent addition to your home and you will want it to not only look good, but also be maintenance free for many years. Choosing thicker glass, higher quality powder coating and the best quality aluminium for the framework will ensure you Verandah looks great, years down the line.
